A study at the University of Bristol and St Andrews, UK, found that skin color is not only influenced by genes, but also healthy lifestyle living.
Using computer software, a number of experts examined 54 participants consisting of men and women. They manipulated the skin color of the respondents, such as redness, yellowish skin and brightness.
The results show, respondents who have a sufficient intake of oxygen in the skin tend to have more fresh and healthy skin.
This condition is also an indication of a strong heart health and healthy lungs. This conclusion supports the research that revealed that the bright skin signifies healthy body.
While smokers and people with diabetes or heart disease have fewer blood vessels in their skin, so skin tends to appear less bright.
Dr Ian Stephen from the University of Bristol said the consumption of fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidant content is very good for skin health. Not just refreshes the skin, essential nutrients to ward off dangerous or toxic compounds trigger pain and improve the immune system.
Professor David Perrett of the University of St Andrews, who conducted the study, said, “The only natural way we can make our skin glow brighter and more because the food is more healthy diet with fruits and vegetables.”
